This latest stage incarnation of Half a Sixpence first showed last year at the Chichester Theatre to huge critical and audience acclaim, and following similar success in the West End, has recently extended its run at the Noël Coward Theatre.
Based on a semi–autobiographical story by H.G.Wells, this 'Story of a Simple Soul' is set at the turn of the last century and features Arthur Kipps, an orphan and draper's assistant who unexpectedly inherits a fortune. Will he stay true to his roots and childhood sweetheart Ann Pornick, with whom he shares his sixpence, or will his head be turned by the attentions of upper class Helen Walsingham once his money opens doors into high society? It's a story about making the right choices and discovering who your real friends are, helped along the way by high–energy dance routines and a rollicking score with familiar songs like Flash, Bang, Wallop, Half a Sixpence and Money to Burn as well as cracking new numbers specially written for the show.
Virtual unknown actor Charlie Stemp has been attracting rave reviews as Arthur Kipps, and another up–and–coming star Devon–Elise Johnson plays Ann Pornick, both ably supported by a cast including three times Olivier–nominated actress Emma Williams as Helen Walsingham and Vivien Parry as Mrs Walsingham.
You'll 'clap hands, stamp your feet and bang on the big bass drum' with sheer joy at this exhilarating show, and this terrific value break also includes rail travel and an overnight stay at a 4 star hotel with full English breakfast, plus free time in London on Sunday.
