The 2012 Tattoo will pay tribute to HM Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee together with the year of Creative Scotland, a celebration to mark 60 years of the Queen's reign and Scottish creativity and culture, in the round. With music, colour and spectacle from home and abroad, set against the incomparable backcloth of Edinburgh Castle, featuring the Massed Pipes and Drums, Military Bands, display teams and dancers from the four corners of the earth - and of course the poignant notes of the Lone Piper high on the Castle ramparts. This annual event has been performed to sell-out audiences, many of whom have travelled from every corner of the world. They are joined each year by around 100 million world-wide television viewers. With an included train journey on the Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway as well as a cruise on the famous SS Sir Walter Scott steamship, this is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of Scotland’s military musical extravaganza.

Itinerary

Day 1: Scotland

Your holiday begins when you board our private coach and travel towards the gentle Scottish Lowlands region. Making appropriate comfort stops en route, we arrive at our hotel in time for you to settle in to your new surroundings before your included evening meal is served.

Day 2: Kinneil Railway - Edinburgh Tattoo

After your included breakfast we travel to the Railway Station at Bo’ness for our included train journey. This wonderful route follows the shore of the Firth of Forth, before climbing a tree-lined gradient with spectacular views. We continue through the woodlands of Birkhill and cross the impressive Avon viaduct, travelling through open countryside towards Manuel. Returning to Bo’ness Station you have a little free time before we travel to Edinburgh, which will be buzzing with its throng of Festival and summertime visitors. You have some free time in the city to browse around and purchase a meal before ascending the hill to the Castle for the performance of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. At the end of a memorable show, you re-board our coach and return to our hotel arriving back late at night / early hours of the morning.

Day 3: SS Sir Walter Scott

After your included breakfast we travel to Loch Katrine in the heart of the Trossachs. From Trossachs Pier we board the historic steamship Sir Walter Scott for our included 45 minute cruise. This is a great way to take in the magnificent scenery, shaped by nature and immortalised in poetry by Sir Walter Scott. We can also learn of the tales and legends of the loch as narrated by a member of the ship’s crew. After a memorable trip we travel to the small town of Aberfoyle for some free time before returning to our hotel for your included evening meal.

Day 4: Gretna Green

After your included breakfast we travel to the UK's marriage capital, Gretna Green. Gretna Green has been a haven for romantic lovers for more than 250 years and this tradition is still going strong. From here we continue the journey home arriving back in your local area in the mid to late evening.
At the time of writing this brochure the Ticket Sales Office of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo have not allocated our tickets, therefore the time of the performance will be confirmed on your joining instructions. The programme for the show is also yet to be confirmed. For more information you can visit www.edintattoo.co.uk. Please note: we reserve the right to amend the order of excursions from those described above for operational reasons. Passengers with Disabilities Please note: due to the ancient and historic setting of the Esplanade (the Tattoo venue) of Edinburgh Castle, perched on an extinct volcano some 135 metres above sea level, it may present access difficulties for some. In particular the elderly, people with disabilities or of limited mobility, those with heart or respiratory problems and vertigo sufferers. Castlehill, the old cobbled approach to the Esplanade, is a short walk of some 80 metres, though it is on a steep incline. In addition there are around a further 60 metres followed by a dozen or so steps to the stands in the arena where generally the seating is quite steeply tiered. On a Saturday there are no facilities for transportation up to the Esplanade and coaches are not permitted to drop passengers off at the top of the hill. Wheelchair spaces are available at the Tattoo but must be pre-booked. Please note however that permanent wheelchair users must be accompanied by an able bodied attendant. Please consider this carefully prior to booking. Should you have any specific difficulties please contact us on 0844 544 6670 prior to making a booking, so that we can try and accommodate your requests.
