Discover the epitome of an English garden on this fabulous botanical break. Sussex and Kent are home to some of the finest gardens in the country and give a wonderful insight into centuries of gardening trends. From romantic country gardens to vast expanses of parkland, we have arranged visits to six places noted for their plant collections and design, including three properties of the National Trust, Sissinghurts Castle and Nymans Gardens.
Day 1: Tunbridge Wells
Your holiday begins when you board our coach and travel to Tunbridge Wells for free time. This historic spa town still retains much of its charm and elegance from Georgian Times, when it attracted royals and aristocratics. The colonnaded walkway know as the Pantiles is a popular area lined with boutiques and cafes, as is the unique 200 acre Common located in the town centre. After some free time we continue our return journey home.
Day 2: Sissinghurst & Great Dixter Castle
After your included breakfast we travel to Sissinghurst Castle to see the wonderful gardens set around woods, streams and farmland with dramatic views across rolling countryside. Similarly coloured plants have been grouped together to create ten distinct gardens, with highlights including the Rose Garden, White Garden, Lime Walk and Cottage Garden. After some free time we travel to Great Dixter House and Gardens where you can visit the Tudor house, complete with a great hall, parlour and solar, and explore the famous arts and craft style garden. Later in the day we return to our hotel for your included evening meal.
Day 3: Nymans - Borde Hill Garden
After your included breakfast we travel to Nymans, one of the first gardens to be transferred to the National Trust. Here you can enjoy the wonderful design, with plants from around the world and an elevated position offering magnificent views over Sussex. You can also see inside some of the rooms of the house. Our next visit is Borde Hill Garden where you can explore the 200 acre informal gardens, planted as distinctive ‘rooms’ offering seasonal colour, and enjoy the magnificent views across the parkland and lakes. Later in the day we return to our hotel for your included evening meal.
Day 4: Sheffield Park and Garden
After your included breakfast we travel to Sheffield Park and Garden, 200 acres of landscaped garden and parkland have been designed by Capability Brown. Here you can enjoy a superb range of trees and shrubs, along with lakes, waterfalls and year round colour. After our visit we return to your local area, arriving back in the mid to late evening.
